DC’s Next Level initiative keeps, well, leveling up.
Two more fan-favorite characters are getting the spotlight this April with an all-new series. Zatanna and Firestorm are both kicking off fresh #1 issues as part of DC: All In Act II, and the creative teams are serious heavy hitters.
The Fury of Firestorm by Jeff Lemire & Rafael De Latorre

Launching April 1, 2026, The Fury of Firestorm blends horror with superhero drama. The series is set in Bedford, Colorado, a quiet town where nothing much happens until Firestorm arrives and starts transforming buildings into sand and people into glass. It’s a nightmare scenario, and no one knows why Ronnie Raymond has snapped.
Written by Jeff Lemire (Absolute Flash, JSA) and illustrated by Rafael De Latorre (The Penguin), this book promises to be big, intense, and a little unsettling. It’s a new tone for Firestorm and a bold direction for the character.
Variants for issue #1 include covers by Chris Burnham and Riley Rossmo, with a foil option for collectors. Lemire also contributes an incentive cover.
Zatanna by Jamal Campbell

Zatanna’s back on April 29 in an ongoing solo series from Jamal Campbell, who’s pulling double duty as writer and artist. After making a splash with last year’s It’s Showtime mini, Campbell returns to launch Zatanna into a new role — Prime Magus.
Now the top magical authority in the DC Universe, Zatanna is responsible for overseeing the world of magic. The book promises high fantasy, character-driven storytelling, and of course, a little showmanship. Campbell’s art speaks for itself, and having him steer both script and visuals should make this a standout.
Issue #1 features variants by Adam Hughes, Kyuyong Eom, Jorge Corona, and a 1:25 incentive cover by Julian Totino Tedesco.
More to Come from DC: Next Level
These new series are part of a wider push from DC to deliver creator-driven stories across both its main and Absolute universes. With launches like Batwoman by Greg Rucka, Deathstroke by Tony Fleecs, and Lobo by Skottie Young, it’s clear that DC is serious about giving big characters bold new energy.
Zatanna and Firestorm hit shelves in April. Get ready.

First and foremost, Kev is a dad to three wonderful children. He’s also an uber Kevin Smith fan (all Smith’s movies are worth a watch, even Yoga Hosers) who has cried during Kermit’s monologue in The Muppets and once owned two VHS copies of Spice World. He loves all pop culture, particularly the MCU and Star Wars. The Evil Dead franchise is his favorite horror franchise, though the original Scream is his favorite scary movie. He bleeds Eagle’s green in the (suburbs of the) greatest city on Earth, Philadelphia. Go Birds!
