Podcast Hosts Travis and Griffin McElroy to Delivery Storytime Keynote at PAX Unplugged 2022
From Friday, Dec. 2 through Sunday, Dec. 4, the Philadelphia Convention Center will play host to PAX Unplugged, the most popular tabletop gaming convention on the East Coast, which will bring together tens of thousands of board and card game enthusiasts from all over the world. It also happens to be this writer’s favorite convention—having covered each year but in 2021, I can say that it’s the one that feels most like home. The excitement of finally feeling safe enough to go back is beyond exciting and today’s news is very exciting!
On Friday, December 2, at 10:30 a.m. ET, ReedPop and Penny Arcade will host the McElroy Brothers Travis and Griffin as they deliver the Storytime Keynote at the Main Theater. The brothers (Justin and Griffin) were part of the founding team of the entertainment website Polygon and are best known for the variety of popular culture podcasts they have produced, such as My Brother, My Brother and Me, Til Death Do Us Blart, and The Adventure Zone. They have also lent their voices to a number of animated projects, including DreamWorks’ Trolls World Tour, Cartoon Network’s Clarence, Disney’s Big City Greens, and others.
Visit fan-favorite tabletop publishers and developers to get a hands-on experience with their newest and most exciting upcoming releases. These companies include The Pokemon Company, Games Workshop, Catan Studio, the makers of the legendary Catan games, and its sequel Frosthaven Cephalofair, among others.
Experience a vast show floor inhabited by companies like Direwolf Digital, Queen Games, Northstar Games, Lucky Duck Games, Smirk & Dagger, Portal Games, and Alderac Entertainment (AEG) as well as well-known and unannounced independent board games, role-playing games, miniatures, and card games.
Attendees of PAX Unplugged can expect an action-packed weekend filled with expert panels from well-known personalities, content creators, and leading developers of tabletop games. There will also be unique play testing opportunities through Unpub, community meetups where fans can make friends in a safe environment, and Freeplay areas with a wide variety of traditional and contemporary tabletop games.
While all kinds of games are capable of bringing us together, board and tabletop games are capable of connecting people in a special way that some other games can’t. We’re excited to safely bring everyone back to The City of Brotherly Love with our health and safety requirements set in place for the well-being of the tabletop and Philadelphia communities.Jerry Holkins, co-founder, Penny Arcade

First and foremost, Kev is a dad to three wonderful children. He’s also an uber Kevin Smith fan (all Smith’s movies are worth a watch, even Yoga Hosers) who has cried during Kermit’s monologue in The Muppets and once owned two VHS copies of Spice World. He loves all pop culture, particularly the MCU and Star Wars. The Evil Dead franchise is his favorite horror franchise, though the original Scream is his favorite scary movie. He bleeds Eagle’s green in the (suburbs of the) greatest city on Earth, Philadelphia. Go Birds!
