Ms. Marvel is coming to Disney Plus tonight

Ms. Marvel, the latest MCU series from Marvel Studios, will be here soon!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is just over 14 years old, which means our new Ms. Marvel, Iman Vellani, has literally grown up with the MCU. Vellani will portray Kamala Kahn, a 16-year-old Pakistani-American high school student from Jersey City, NJ who is an aspiring artist and avid gamer and writes superhero fan fiction about heroes such as Captain Marvel. From a magical bangle, Khan gains the ability to harness cosmic energy and create constructs. Khan likes the simplicity of a life with powers, rather than worrying about high school, boys and relationships, family conflict, culture, and religion, as Vellani pointed out. She also stated that the character “felt so much like me” because of their shared history, ethnicity, and Marvel fandom.

A Kamala Kahn/Ms. Marvel project has been rumored as early as September 2016 when then Marvel Entertainment Creative Consultant, Joe Quesada, said that they were exploring plans to explore the character outside of comics due to her rapid success with comic book readers. In 2018, Kevin Feige stated that an MCU project based on the character was “in the works” and would follow Captain Marvel. It was in 2019 that development officially began on Ms. Marvel as a series on Disney+.

While fans are still getting used to the new MCU, one without Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, Feige is clearly paving the way for the next generation of heroes. We’ve seen Kate Bishop in Hawkeye, American Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Billy and Tommy Maximoff in WandaVision (and Multiverse of Madness), and now Kamala Kahn in the latest series. The elder Avengers—Bruce Banner/Hulk, Clint Barton/Hawkeye, and Thor—are still around kicking, but for how long? It sure looks like Phase 4 is building up a team of Young Avengers with the likes of Sam Wilson/Captain America, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and Peter Parker/Spider-Man becoming a team of mentors for the new kids on the block.

Ms. Marvel debuts on Disney+ TONIGHT! It’ll be available at 12:00 AM PT/3:00 AM ET and will surely be the talk of the town for the next few days. Are you staying up late to watch? Let us know in the comments below!
