Moon Knight’s finale is this week and if you’ve been holding out to binge the entire series, you may be asking yourself what MCU movies do you need to watch to prepare?
When Marvel Studios released Iron Man back in 2008, our collective minds were blown away by what the studio could do with their minor characters (at the time). Sure, hearing Nick Fury hint at something bigger was neat, but then Tony Stark showed up in The Incredible Hulk and our minds were blown again.
Several years later, we know the drill—each Marvel Studios property not only tells its story, or continues the grander MCU story, but also tees up what’s to come. The way they blew our mind in 2021 was by being able to do it on the small screen with their streaming shows on Disney+. The biggest catch with these shows is that it would be hard for a new fan to come on board—WandaVision, Loki, and the others have required some sort of homework to fully appreciate their stories. Could that be changing in 2022?
What Marvel movies should be watched to fully enjoy Moon Knight?
Moon Knight is the latest Marvel Studios show to debut on Disney+. It stars Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Moon Knight, Ethan Hawk as Arthur Harrow, and May Calamawy as Layla El-Faouly. The 6-episode limited series premiered just over a month ago and has been lighting the world on fire.
And while the release of any Marvel Studios project is a fun excuse to catch up on the MCU, Moon Knight is the rare exception that no background knowledge is required. Unlike the series that debuted in 2021, Moon Knight doesn’t bring over any established characters from the MCU’s past. Of course, something huge could drop in the finale that changes that, but as it stands, you are free to start watching Moon Knight episode 1 without having to prep with any other MCU viewings.
That said if you do want some background knowledge on Marc Spector/Moon Knight, the best place for that is the source material—Marvel Comics!

First and foremost, Kev is a dad to three wonderful children. He’s also an uber Kevin Smith fan (all Smith’s movies are worth a watch, even Yoga Hosers) who has cried during Kermit’s monologue in The Muppets and once owned two VHS copies of Spice World. He loves all pop culture, particularly the MCU and Star Wars. The Evil Dead franchise is his favorite horror franchise, though the original Scream is his favorite scary movie. He bleeds Eagle’s green in the (suburbs of the) greatest city on Earth, Philadelphia. Go Birds!
