Aside from assorted Rock Band/Guitar Hero instruments, I’ve only ever owned two instruments in my life. An acoustic guitar (that still sits on its stand, begging for me to learn how to play) and a violin. The violin was a school thing—in elementary school, we had to try an instrument. I don’t know why I picked the violin, but I did. Not only did I get frustrated with it, but the teacher and I also got into a bit of an argument about it. That said, there is zero chance I’d ever be as good as Asher Laub.
Who knew the violin could be this cool? I’m sure Asher did—he’s been playing since the age of TWO. He performed with the Buffalo philharmonic by the age of 13! All I did with a violin by the age of 13 was buy and sell it. This Indigo cover focuses on the music, with Laub putting the electric violin front and center; giving a whole new dimension to Camilo’s hit song.
Laub’s expertise has led to an in-demand soloist career which has led to performances at Madison Square Garden, Hammerstein Hall, Lincoln Center, the Jacob Javitz Center, and many more across the world. He’s also been known to breakdance across stages with his LED electric violin, which may explain why he’s been featured on CNN, ABC, NBC, and, the best of the best, That’s Entertainment. Check out more of Asher Laub’s music on his YouTube channel. You can also find out more about Asher on his website or Instagram.
First and foremost, Kev is a dad to three wonderful children. He’s also an uber Kevin Smith fan (all Smith’s movies are worth a watch, even Yoga Hosers) who has cried during Kermit’s monologue in The Muppets and once owned two VHS copies of Spice World. He loves all pop culture, particularly the MCU and Star Wars. The Evil Dead franchise is his favorite horror franchise, though the original Scream is his favorite scary movie. He bleeds Eagle’s green in the (suburbs of the) greatest city on Earth, Philadelphia. Go Birds!
