How many Doctor Strange movies are there?

DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes out this Friday! If you’re looking to do a Dr. Strange marathon, how many movies are you going to have to watch?

It’s an exciting week for Marvel Studios—Moon Knight is set to wrap up its first season on Wednesday and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will release just a couple of days later. While it may be a busy week, you may need time to binge some MCU films to get yourself up to date. You can check out what you need to watch for Moon Knight here, but let’s get into the big question for this post—how many Doctor Strange movies are there?

The Doctor Strange franchise surprisingly only consists of two movies—2016’s Doctor Strange and this week’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It feels so surprising because of how crucial the character has been to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To get the complete Dr. Strange story, you’ll need to watch four movies altogether: Doctor Strange, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, and 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

By watching those four movies, you’ll see the rise of Dr. Stephen Strange from surgeon to the mystic arts, his battle to keep the time stone safe from Thanos, his return from being blipped away to help save the day against the Mad Titan in the final battle for the infinity stones, and his fall as Sorcerer Supreme as he unknowingly cracks open the multiverse when helping Peter Parker.

As we discussed earlier today, if you’re on a time crunch, you don’t have to watch all four of the movies Dr. Strange appears in to prepare for Multiverse of Madness. But, it’s fun to dive deep into the MCU, so try if you can!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Elizabeth Olsen, and plenty of other actors rumored to be a part of this massive undertaking directed by Sam Raimi. The movie opens this Friday, May 6th, 2022, in theaters.
