Greetings, travelers! Two weeks ago, we were introduced to the work of Andrew Alman, when he revealed that the Amish aren’t as opposed to technology as we were led to believe. Rather, in his version of the world, and the subsequent dystopia that follows, the quiet folk are actually highly technological beings, intent on saving humanity. Well, now it’s time to see what happens when the sci-fi is amped up to eleven. Read on to learn more about the sequel, Andyish: Book 2 of the Amish Apocalypse.
Spend just a few moments in Andrew Alman’s Andyish: Book 2 of the Amish Apocalypse, and you’ll see that the author hasn’t missed a step. In fact, if anything, he’s just more inclined to know the dance, and to speed things up accordingly. From the opening pages, you’ll see that things are just as wonderfully surprising as what you’ve come to expect, but that there are still plenty of twists and turns to keep readers on their toes. Andyish feels equally as character-driven as the book that preceded it, but it does so from a new vantage point, taking a person with very human characteristics and letting them loose in a sort of new playground that is a new version of themselves. And it’s a playground that invites readers into it as well, especially if they like something with real stakes but that still has the willingness to poke fun at what it is from time to time.
In the aftermath of Thomish, Andy awakens in a new avatar deep in the Amazon Rainforest, unaware that his consciousness was transferred just moments after his death. Guided by Teddy, a respected historical figure and one of the original Martian settlers, Andy must navigate the challenges of his new form while uncovering dark truths about the defects in avatar technology—flaws that have spawned the paranormal myths of vampirism and werewolves.
As Andy relentlessly hunts Gestas, the ancient enemy who tore his life apart, he is forced to confront a world scarred by betrayal and haunted by shadows of a dying Mars. His journey takes him to a post-apocalyptic factory, where he discovers enslaved workers—and a ghost from his past: his ex-wife, thought lost in the chaos of Thomish.
With allies old and new, Andy must grapple with the legacy of Martian technology, his growing abilities, and the fractured bonds of his former life. Andyish is a gripping tale of vengeance, redemption, and the blurred lines between man and machine in humanity’s fight for survival.
While Andyish and the rest of the series isn’t quite satire, it’s a joy to read it because it’s so outlandish, even though it’s wrapped in a cloak of true sci-fi dystopia. Alman finds great success in this blend, meaning it’s a delight to experience throughout. This tale definitely takes what you know, and what you think you know, and spins things in fun new directions. And with a third book on the way, there’s never been a better time to dive into this quirky, interesting series. Check out Andyish: Book 2 of the Amish Apocalypse on Amazon today!
